What is Toughened Glass?

Toughened or Tempered Glass is a type of strengthened glass which is processed by using controlled thermal and chemical treatments to enable the glass to be stronger than normal glass.Toughened Glass if broken will break up into small pieces rather than large shards this minimizes injury to anyone coming into contact with the glass. See Our Critical Locations page to see where Safety Glass is Required. You will find Toughened glass in Doors around your home or in locations where the visible glass is below 800 mm in a Window from floor level. It is also used for Glass Table Tops and most furniture made from glass. You will normally find a small etching on the corner of the glass to signify that the glass is Toughened.
